How to detect how severe Covid-19 patients are?

While quarantined at home, F0s can apply simple methods to monitor their health as follows:

How to count your pulse to monitor your health.

Count the pulse: Position three fingers as shown, you will see the pulse under your hand.

A newborn baby’s pulse is normally 100-160 beats/minute;

Count your breathing: Lie down comfortably for at least 5-10 minutes, then ask someone else to count the number of times your chest rises and falls.

Adults have a normal breathing rate of 16-20 times/minute.

Children have faster breathing than adults.

Measure temperature: Use an armpit thermometer for at least 10 minutes.

If the patient has a fever of 38.5 degrees or higher, take fever-reducing medicine Paracetamol at a dose of 10-15 mg/kg of body weight.

The dose of fever-reducing medicine for children is also calculated based on weight. If the child’s fever is over 38.5 degrees Celsius, give the child a packet of fever-reducing medicine or put a rectal suppository containing Paracetamol, with a dose of 10-15 mg/kg of body weight.

Note, only use rectally when the child cannot drink or vomits… because frequent rectal insertion can cause stool excretion disorders.

When there is a fever, the heart rate (pulse) will increase and the breathing rate will also become faster. You want to count the pulse and breathing rate accurately and need to reduce the patient’s fever first.

Signs of getting worse

Observe: If face color, lip color, and pink fingertips are normal.

In case of Covid-19 patients with confirmed or suspected positive results, there are signs of mild fatigue, little cough, sore throat, loss of smell, fever below 38 degrees, pulse 60-100, breathing 15-22 times

When the patient’s fever is over 38.5 degrees Celsius, give Paracetamol as instructed above.

If the patient is exhausted, drowsy, breathing more than 30 times/minute or less than 10 times/minute, pulse more than 120 times/minute or less than 50 times/minute or no pulse can be felt, this is a sign of danger.

Take fever reducer Tylenol or Paracetamol?

In fact, these two drugs are one and the same, both contain the ingredient Paracetamol (pain reliever and fever reducer).

Doctors advise people, if they are not doctors, not to give advice or take medicine on their own.

I/my relative is F0, should I self-isolate at home or need to go to the hospital?

This completely depends on the local health regulations and reception status where you live.

However, if you detect severe or critical signs as instructed above, you can clearly describe the symptoms so that local medical staff can assess the patient’s condition, thereby providing support.

My relative is F0, what should I do?

If you live in the same house, when one person has Covid-19, there is a very high chance that the other members will also be positive.
