US President Joe Biden yesterday announced a series of new Covid-19 response measures, tightening testing regulations for passengers and increasing vaccination efforts, in the context of the US entering winter and having

Biden urged the country, especially political opponents, to unanimously support the new anti-epidemic strategy.

Biden talked about officials’ response to Covid-19 at an event in Maryland on December 2.

According to the new regulations, all passengers entering the US must be tested for nCoV within 24 hours before boarding, applicable to both US citizens and foreigners, regardless of whether they have been fully vaccinated or not.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said testing and vaccination requirements could also be added for domestic flights.

The Covid-19 vaccination campaign has also been stepped up, aiming to increase vaccination rates and ensure the ability to deploy booster shots.

The White House also encourages at-home testing, requiring insurance to cover 100% of the cost of test kits.

The new series of measures is intended to show that the Biden administration is doing everything to prevent the pandemic from hindering efforts to recover the economy and avoid disruptions to the year-end holidays.

The strategy was announced when the US recorded 8 cases of infection with the Omicron variant, including 5 cases announced in New York state on December 2.

Despite efforts to promote the vaccination campaign, about 40% of the US population still has not been vaccinated with enough vaccine doses.

The US, the largest epidemic region in the world, yesterday reported nearly 49.7 million infections and more than 806,000 deaths due to nCoV, an increase of 123,098 and 1,217 cases respectively compared to the day before.
