According to Doctor Hoang Chau Bao Dinh – Department of Neurology, Neurology Center, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, insomnia is a common sleep disorder but not everyone with insomnia is sick.

Depending on the severity and duration, insomnia can be classified into acute and chronic insomnia.

Meanwhile, chronic insomnia occurs at least three nights per week and repeats continuously for three months or longer.

Acute insomnia, if not promptly intervened, can become chronic insomnia, reducing the ability to concentrate on work during the day, increasing the risk of accidents and diseases such as depression, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Prolonged insomnia makes the patient physically weak.

Measures to improve sleep quality

According to Dr. Dinh, patients need to pay attention to improving sleep quality right from the first detection of sleep disorders.

How to recognize abnormal insomnia

Reading before going to bed instead of scrolling on the phone helps relax the mind and is good for sleep.

Proper nutrition also contributes to good sleep.

Appropriate exercises such as meditation, yoga, jogging, swimming, cycling… should be done at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

Dr. Dinh added that if using many measures but sleep does not improve, the patient should see a neuropsychiatrist to diagnose the cause and treat insomnia.
