According to data from the Foreign Investment Agency (Ministry of Planning and Investment), in the first 6 months of the year, the whole country had 1,145 new projects with a total registered capital of 7.5 billion USD, an increase of 95% over the same period.

Thus, the total newly registered and increased capital is 11.3 billion USD, an increase of 105% over the same period.

Capital flows from Korea flow strongly into Vietnam

There are 61 countries and territories with investment projects in Vietnam.

Japan ranked second with a total newly registered and increased investment capital of 1.23 billion USD.

Cumulatively, Korea has invested about 48.5 billion USD in FDI into 5,364 projects.

In the past decade, Japanese FDI capital flows into Vietnam were very abundant, but in the last two years, investment has slowed down.

In the first half of 2016, foreign investors invested in 19 industries, of which the processing and manufacturing industry is the field that attracts a lot of attention from foreign investors with 8 billion VND.

Real estate business ranked second with 25 new projects, total newly registered and increased capital of 605 million USD.

Foreign investors have invested in 53 provinces and cities, of which Hai Phong is the locality attracting the most capital with 39 new and additional projects worth more than 1.7 billion USD.

Some major projects licensed in the first half of 2016 are the LG Display Hai Phong project with a total registered investment capital of 1.5 billion USD, specializing in manufacturing and processing plastic OLED screen products for mobile devices.

Samsung Research and Development Center project, total capital of 300 million USD, aims to research and develop high-tech electrical, electronic and telecommunications products in Hanoi.

Korean Tra Vinh wind power plant project (phase 2), total capital of 247.6 million USD, specializes in producing electricity from wind energy to supply to the national grid.

In addition, a number of other projects such as Midtown real estate business, Duong River surface water plant construction project, Taiwan’s Dai Duong Paper Mill Co., Ltd. project all have investment capital of over 200 million USD.
