Queen Elizabeth II on May 22 took a helicopter to visit the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth at Portsmouth naval base in southern England.

The video released by the British royal family shows Queen Elizabeth riding the elevator down to the hangar, behind her is an F-35 fighter of the British navy.

The Queen’s visit takes place when the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier battle group prepares to depart for Asia, expected to travel through the Mediterranean, Red Sea, Indian Ocean region, East Sea and then to the Philippine Sea.

The British aircraft carrier will visit 40 countries including India, Japan, South Korea and Singapore, participating in more than 70 coordinated trips at sea, including a trip with the French aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle in the Mediterranean.

The aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth left Portsmouth port on May 22.

The Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier will carry 8 British F-35B fighters and 10 US F-35B fighters, 14 naval helicopters and 1,700 crew members, including 250 US soldiers.

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said the deployment of the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier would help Britain `demonstrate influence, demonstrate strength, engage with friends and reaffirm our commitment to addressing challenges.`

The trip took place after the British government was recommended to `shift its focus` to the Indo-Pacific region to deal with China’s growing influence in the international arena.

The Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier belongs to the class of the same name, started construction in July 2009 and launched 5 years later.

The warship has a displacement of 65,000 tons, 280 m long, can carry about 65 aircraft of all types including F-35B fighters and naval helicopters, equipped with 3 Phalanx close-range defense complexes and 6 clusters.
